The midnight caper...

I was awoken from a deep sleep last night to the sound of a little voice saying "Momma....open this, open this Momma!" My eyes shot open and I leaped out of bed to find my two-year-old son standing next to me holding a box of chewy granola bars from the pantry. There was a light shining into the bedroom from the living room so I rushed out there to see what was going on. Hudson had used a stool to turn every light in the downstairs on. It was 4:30 in the morning!! The house was all lit up and he had pulled out a new game that his grandmother had given him earlier that night. He was having a little one man party.

I'm frequently awoken by my youngest daughter, Trinity. She's up almost once every night and she's never consistenly been a good sleeper. I have yet to figure out where we went wrong with her because my other 3 sleep pretty well. Anyhow, I was startled to find Hudson awake and in my room since he has a door knob safety cover on the inside of his bedroom door to prevent him from escaping. My husband is against the door knob cover and thinks it's dangerous if there was a fire or other emergency. But, I on the other hand, feel that the lock is for Hudson's own safety (and my sanity!!) If they know they can't get out, after a few nights they don't even try and they go to sleep much faster. Last night, I suspect my little Trinity helped her little brother remove the lock prior to bedtime because they came walking down stairs together after I had tucked them in. I was quick to tell Daddy it was his turn to return the two little monkeys to their beds. I'm sure he didn't check to see if Hudson was unable to get out of his room by making sure the somewhat dependable door knob safety cover was in place. I have used this cover with our three youngest children when they reach that age that they like to exercise their independence and get out of bed after being tucked in (repeatedly). My girls quickly learned how to hang on the plastic cover causing it to pop open and they could escape successfully. Trinity teaches Hudson all that she knows, the good and more often the bad. And he is slowly trying to master popping the lock off himself but for now it still serves its purpose......the majority of the time.

Soon I will have to find a new way to encourage Hudson to stay in bed or pray that this phase will quickly pass. If anyone has suggestions feel free to share!
